Coaching Workshop back for 2026
The VCFA is proud to announce that the Coaching Workshop is back for 2026.
After a successful running in 2025, the Coaching Workshop is running again, on 21 February, with the experienced Ian Greener at the helm.
Held at Monbulk Rangers Soccer Club, from 9am-12pm, this opportunity provides coaches with all levels of experience, from across all competitions in the Association to learn from a fully licensed coach with over 50 years experience in football.
The workshop is applicable to all coaches from Kickstart through to Juniors and Senior Men and Women teams.
The free course aims to:
- Build confidence in coaching practice
- Improve understanding of the game
- Provide practical, game-relevant training ideas
Topics covered:
- Possession drills
- Technical drills (first touch, striking the ball, dribbling, running with the ball)
- Attacking activities (shooting, killer passes)
- Defending activities
- Shooting and goal-scoring practices
- Goalkeeping activities
- Warm-up activities and games
Ian's career has been based on coach education and player development but he has also had experience working with elite players at the senior levels of football. He has a special interest and knowledge in sports science having been associated with the Victorian Institute of Sport for 18 years.

- 1989-1991 Asst. Coach Sunshine George Cross- Australian National League
- 1991-1995 Asst. Coach Victorian Institute of Sport Football Program
- 1995-2005 Victorian State Director of Coaching
- 2005-2010 Head Coach Victorian Institute of Sport including National U18 Coach at Nike Cup, coached the VIS in International tournaments against National U16 teams from France, Germany, Mali and UAE.
- 2010- 2023 Coach at an elite football academy in Melbourne; created a coaches association in 2012 that then created a national coaches association now called Football Coaches Australia where he is the chair of the Technical Committee.
