South East puts on Masterful Display at Womens VCFA Macron Pre Season Cup
With a dominant 3-0 score line, South East took the Cup trophy over Monbulk Ranges at this year's Womens VCFA Macron Pre Season Cup.
Played at Darebin International Sports Centre, the Pre Season Cup hosted 8 teams in two pools, who faced off against each other in a jam-packed day of football.
South East were in great form all day. The WPL team were undefeated in their group stage and the highest scoring squad of the day, netting 20 goals during the Cup.
Their 2-0 victory over St Hilarys, 7-0 against Maroondah United and 8-0 over Old Camberwell in the group stages were more than enough to qualify the team for the final.
Monbulk’s journey to the final was more hard fought, with a nil-all draw to Knox Churches, a 5-0 win over Waverley City and a 2-0 victory against St Pauls.
To the final, South East were quick to enter the match book, with Helen McKeown scoring their first in the sixth minute. The club then netted two more in the first half - Samantha Middlemast at 16’ and Lashes Walsh two minutes after.
Monbulk rallied in the second half - a brilliantly saved penalty by keeper Jessica Weller and tenacious work by Player of The Cup Evelyn Bellamy - held South East scoreless.
With the final score line of 3-0, South East were announced the victors of the 2026 Womens VCFA Macron Pre Season Cup.
Round One of the VCFA Women’s Competition begins on 11 April.
