COMPETITIONS
The following proposed competition formats are just that - proposals. We are completely dependent on team nominations, which we will only have final numbers for on the23rd of June.
Regardless, we have provided non-elimination cup competitions for the senior Men and Women, and a 10-team (9-week) league competition for all Junior age-brackets. The proposed starting date will be the 25th of July with juniors finishing on the 19th of September and the seniors finishing on the 26th of September. The 26th of September will also serve as a catch-up round for juniors in case of poor weather etc.
The Senior Cups will run as Cup Competition formats. That is, players will be cup-tied to teams. Please note, we are not assuring an even and fair competition with any attempt at divisional structures. Rather, all teams from all divisions will be thrown into a hat to determine the first round of games with the luck of the draw. The flavour of the Cups will be that of community participation and fun. Please keep this in mind as you prepare your team lists during pre-season.
Finally, we will be running a Facebook Poll for the naming of the competitions. Please keep an eye out for that in the coming days, and get your club involved. You will find below some more detailed approaches to each competition. And no, there will be no 'losers comp' - these will all be renamed more appropriately in coming weeks.
MENS
We have discussed competition format options for 32 teams, 40 teams, 64 teams and 80teams depending on team nominations. The 64-team option is the 'cleanest' and most desirable for our Men's league, but pending registrations we can remain flexible.
MENS COMPETITION OPTION 1: 64 team non-elimination (10-game competition)
64 teams= 32 v 32 (drawn out of a hat)
2x groups of 32 teams = 16 v 16 (winners comp) and 16 v 16 (losers comp)
4x groups of 16 teams = 8 v 8 (top winners) 8 v 8 (bottom winners) 8 v 8 (top losers) 8 v8 (bottom losers)
This will result in 8x groups of 8 (Super Cups 1 - 8)
Group 1:Winners Comp top 8 winners
Group 2:Winners Comp bottom 8 winners
Group 3:Winners Comp top 8 losers
Group 4:Winners Comp bottom 8 losers
Group 5:Losers Comp top 8 winners
Group 6:Losers Comp bottom 8 winners
Group 7:Losers Comp top 8 losers
Group 8:Losers Comp bottom 8 losers
Each group play 7x round league (each team meets once) - top of ladder wins
WOMENS
We have discussed competition formats for 8 teams, 10 teams, 12 or 16 teams depending on team nominations. While a 16 team competition would be most desirable, we think it unlikely to be achieved. Therefore we are presenting a 12-team option.
WOMENS COMPETITION OPTION 1: 12-team non-elimination (10-game competition)
12 teams= 6 v 6 (drawn out of a hat)
6 winners and 6 losers to be put into 3x pools of 4 teams
Group 1:4x top winners
Group 2:2x bottom winners and 2x top losers
Group 3:4x bottom losers
Each group plays each other once to form final group stage
Cup 1: 2x top teams from group 1 and 2x top teams from group 2
Cup 2: 2x bottom teams from group 1 and 2x top teams from group 3
Cup 3: 2x bottom teams group 2 and 2x bottom teams from group 3
Each group plays each other twice - top of the ladder wins
JUNIORS
Each age-group competition will be capped at 10 teams to play a 9-round league competition.
Under 8s,Under 9s, Under 10s and under 12s (small-sided-games)
Under11's, Under 12's, Under 13's, Under 14's, Under 15's, Under 16's ad Under17's*
*If team nominations are low in this age group, we would merge the 16 and 17 Competition
VCFA's priority is to safeguard the health and wellbeing of our football community. We acknowledge that sport (and football) is very important to the overall wellbeing and mental health of our players and their families and we are determined to provide a platform to facilitate this opportunity for our members.
However, we must stress to you that this may all turn in a moment. One person, one team, one club not following the rules and not respecting the guidelines we have provided, may result in the whole Association suffering for that wrongdoing. We expect strict adherence to the Government and Health Authorities policies in order to play the game we all love.
Thank you for your ongoing cooperation and understanding.
